Kye Nelson

Kye Nelson is a Certifying Coordinator for The Focusing Institute, as well as being its Co-Director. She has taught in the U.S., Canada, the UK, Europe, and Japan. Between 1998 and 2004 she collaborated in the development of Thinking At the Edge (TAE) with Eugene Gendlin and Mary Hendricks.

She was a member of the faculty for Rob Foxcroft's Philosophy of the Implicit program, and served as a member of the core faculty for the Shambhala Institute (now ALIA), team teaching with Otto Scharmer and David Rome.

She also developed a training program for integrating Focusing into spiritual direction and other work done by 'spiritual professionals' such as transpersonal counsellors. The program included faculty from a variety of spiritual traditions, and built deep understandings across traditions among participants.

She has been meditating since the late 1960’s and has been studying Taoism since the mid-1970’s. She is currently working on a commentary and translation of the Tao Te Ching, written from the felt sense level.

In teaching Focusing she likes to emphasize how it can be used to go deeper into the tangible blessings of this moment in order to shift to a broader, more resilient perspective. She finds Focusing to be a powerful means of bridging the gap many people feel between spiritual practice and daily life. She teaches listening as a contemplative practice in its own right.

In her private practice as a consultant and coach, Kye has worked with a number of nonprofit leaders over the last decade. Areas she has helped her clients think through have included board development; administrative and general staff development; strengthening an organization's position in the community they serve; and problems related to working in more than one country and bridging gaps in understanding due to language and culture differences. She also has direct management experience, gained managing a growing family manufacturing business in an earlier phase of her life.
