Personal Statement about Training Program:
I am relatively new to the professional helper field. I have been employed with the First Nation Healing Centre Women's Shelter which is located on the Fisher River Cree Nation. I was a Children's Support Worker for 3 yrs, and now working as a Resident Support Worker.
I would like to share that I have been learning about our ways as Anicinabe and it is this knowledge I wish to pass onto my children. Maintaining a drug and alcohol free lifestyle allows me to share these teachings with not only my children, but the families we work with at my place of employment. I have found that contemporary teachings can go hand in hand with traditional teachings, which allows for a holistic approach to helping women who are seeking better lives for themselves and their children.
