Nina Joy Lawrence Bio:

I'm Nina Joy Lawrence.

Focusing has nestled down in my core and replaced my counseling practice, become integrated with my spiritual practice as a Friend (Quaker), and with my daily living. Holding Presence for everything inside fits so satisfyingly with my spiritual practice and with my belief in building peace. It fits with my desire to be grounded in my body, and follow a trustable way as life opens.

One way forward I have been following is teaching Focusing in Afghanistan and Pakistan. My colleague, Dr. Patricia Omidian and I use Sufi poetry as the medium. Another concern of mine is to explore ways of teaching Focusing so it more easily can go right home to anyone the new Focuser wants to share with, from the first day of learning onward.

This is part of the "Conversations" series. Click this link to see the list of all the conversations.

To listen to this recording, you can either:

  • Right-click on the link to "Download MP3" link, and save the conversation to your computer. You can then listen to it on your computer or on any portable MP3 device.

  • You can also listen to this recording from the website, without downloading it. Use the audio player above.  It works like a regular tape recorder, with symbols for "play," and "pause."

Please note:

  • If you don’t see an audio player graphic immediately below the heading "Flash Player", this means you do not have Flash installed on your computer.  In that case, you can either download Flash or you can save the file to your computer and play it there or on an MP3 player.
  • The online Flash player works best if you have a broadband connection (cable or DSL), as opposed to dial-up.
  • It may take a moment for the buttons to appear.
  • To start, press the play button.
  • Once it has started, to pause, press the pause button.
  • The sound level is NOT controlled from the player.  It is controlled from within your computer.  If you do not normally use sound, it may be muted.  On most Windows computers go to the "Control Panel," click on "Sound" and adjust the volume.  If you have external speakers, make sure they are on and the volume is adjusted properly.
