Conversations: April 2009: Lynn Preston

Lynn Preston
Certifying Coordinator and Focusing-Oriented Psychotherapist

Lynn Preston's Bio: I have studied and taught the use of focusing in psychotherapy since the early days of its inception. More recently, I have been interested in how it intersects with relational psychoanalysis. My life in New York City is currently brimming with work projects that express this cross fertilization. In addition to my private psychotherapy practice, I am the director of the Focusing Oriented Relational Psychotherapy training program in New York City and the co- director of the Focusing Oriented Therapy program in Cape Town, South Africa. I also co-direct the two year psychoanalytic training program of the Training and Research Institute in Self Psychology. I find it enjoyable and quite challenging to write about the integration of focusing and relational self psychology. You can find several of these articles on the focusing web site as well as our new FORP web site.

The recording lasts about 30 minutes.

To listen to this recording, you can either:

  • Right-click on the link to "Download MP3" link, and save the conversation to your computer. You can then listen to it on your computer or on any portable MP3 device.

  • You can also listen to this recording from the website, without downloading it. Use the audio player below.  It works like a regular tape recorder, with symbols for "play," and "pause."

Please note:

  • If you don’t see an audio player graphic immediately below the heading "Flash Player", this means you do not have Flash installed on your computer.  In that case, you can either download Flash or you can save the file to your computer and play it there or on an MP3 player.
  • The online Flash player works best if you have a broadband connnection (cable or DSL), as opposed to dial-up.
  • It may take a moment for the buttons to appear.
  • To start, press the play button.
  • Once it has started, to pause, press the pause button.
  • The sound level is NOT controlled from the player.  It is controlled from within your computer.  If you do not normally use sound, it may be muted.  On most Windows computers go to the "Control Panel," click on "Sound" and adjust the volume.  If you have external speakers, make sure they are on and the volume is adjusted properly.
