The Focusing Institute workshops are usually taught in or near the New York City area. Most workshops are limited to twelve participants and all are experiential. We can help with accommodation and transportation arrangements. CEC credits are available. After you have taken a Level I Focusing Workshop, you can have a focusing partner.

Introductory Focusing Workshop Level Two
MAY 2, 2010 in New York City with Charlotte Howorth, LCSW. This workshop is designed for anyone with at least a basic knowledge of Focusing. The goal of this workshop is to increase each participant's comfort and expertise in Focusing. The workshop is designed to be responsive to the specific needs of the participants and to provide a safe, comfortable learning environment. In order to maximize learning, class size will be limited. Working with Couples and Trauma
JUNE 11-13, 2010 in New York City. Working with Couples and Trauma with Shirley Turcotte, R.C.C., S.F.T.T., Instructor. This workshop will introduce you to Focusing Oriented Couples and Relationship Counselling techniques, with special attention to trauma. It is no surprise that unresolved trauma can create havoc in relationships. Often parts of the trauma can not be resolved outside of relationship. New and old relationships can be very challenging for survivors of trauma and those in relationship with survivors.

Focusing-Listening to the Deeper Self - A Level One Workshop for Beginners and Those Who Would Like to Teach
JULY 9-11, 2010 at the Garrison Institute in Garrison, New York with Joan Klagsbrun, Ph.D, Charlotte Howorth, LCSW and Susan Lennox, Ph.D. This workshop will give you an opportunity to experience Focusing in a beautiful residential retreat setting on the Hudson River. You will learn the core skills of Focusing and have opportunities to practice with supportive partners. There will also be ample time for scenic walks, morning yoga or even getting a massage. By the end of the week-end, you will learn how to incorporate Focusing into your everyday life, so that you can turn towards whatever you are experiencing with interested curiosity, hear from it and let it unfold in a life-forward direction. In addition to those new to Focusing, we also welcome those who want to learn to teach a level one class. We will meet with you as a group, to answer questions, offer materials and work with whatever blocks you may have to teaching. We will help you to discover new confidence and competence in teaching Focusing. More information

Working with Dreams and Trauma
JULY 16-18, 2010 in New York City. Working with Dreams and Trauma with Shirley Turcotte, R.C.C., S.F.T.T., Instructor. There are many survivors of trauma who do much of their trauma work through their dreams. This workshop will introduce you to Focusing Oriented Therapy techniques in working with dreams and fantasies, with special attention to trauma. Often within the fabric of dreams and fantasies lay opportunities for healing and messages for helping. Bringing attention to your dreams and fantasies can also help in unraveling painful life situations present, past and inter-generationally. Together we will learn to listen to our dreams and fantasies with an open heart and curious mind and capable observer. If you don’t have a dream to work with, don’t worry; we will help create you a personal dream/fantasy to work from.

Advanced and Certification Weeklong
NOVEMBER 14-20, 2010 at Garrison Institute in Garrison, New York. The Advanced and Certification Weeklong is a celebration of your transition into being a teacher of Focusing and a representative of Focusing to the larger world. It is also a place where you can gain confidence and skills in Focusing, and in facilitating and teaching Focusing. Each year a unique group of trainees and trainers attend the Certification Weeklong. Weeklong leaders will facilitate your further development with focusing and help you develop and concretely plan a project in your area of interest or special training. You will be able to experience your project unfolding through the connection with other focusing people. Tuition is $900. Final cost based on room selection. Click for more information.
