Open and Contained: an experiential exploration of the Implicit Shared Field

Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm in Eastern Time
An Online Class Facilitated by Nina Joy Lawrence and Serge Prengel

Part of The Focusing Highlights Series.

(no special computer skill or equipment required)

We're inviting you to share the experience of what we call the Implicit Field, or Shared Field, or We Space.

As in any Focusing endeavor, we take the pauses to find and speak from what is actually happening. But not just 'inside': We invite the felt sense of being with each other, of what is between us, of what we are part of. We gently deepen this experience by paying more attention to what is implicitly there.

This is an embodied, experiential exploration of the fluid and shifting boundaries between 'me' and 'group'.

There is a sense of lightness and buoyancy - the intensely satisfying sense of floating in the group like a fish in the water. It feels great to show up in a group where we feel there is totally enough space for 'me' as well as for everybody else, and we can all speak from what comes up for us in relation to this common experience.

This is also a setting that challenges us to experience the difficulties of exploring self in interaction, and grow from being present with this experience. This is a dance between being immersed in the field, and standing up for our individuality. Between being exquisitely attuned to the group and expressing our differences. Between the fear that our difference may isolate us, and the hope that they will actually enrich the group.

Of course, this space is built on a foundation of trust, respect and safety, which allows a partnership of creativity to emerge.

Registration closes Tuesday, April 26, 2016.

The video link will be an easy to use format called Zoom. You will need to have a computer/mobile device. Calling in by phone is also possible but not preferred.

All registered participants will be sent a link to the video recording the week following the course. So if you are unable to attend in person, you will still be able to hear the class. Please note, because of the nature of the shared field topic, the recording will be deleted two weeks after the course date.

Nina Joy Lawrence, Certifying Coordinator for TFI, grew up in a culture of shared fields in her Quaker Meeting. She only found focusing in mid-life, during the 1990s. Now she finds that Focusing and her Quaker practices help her sense, explore and speak about what is present between us in a group. Nina also has been active for the past 16 years in co-creating and helping to sustain the growing Community Wellness Focusing current as part of the flowing river of Focusing.

Serge Prengel, LMHC is in private practice in New York City. He is certified in Focusing, Somatic Experiencing and Core Energetics. Much of his energy is devoted to LifeSherpa, a nonprofit that explores spirit and mindfulness as creative interaction with life. Many of the people who participate in LifeSherpa are Focusers. We hope you will join us. See: About LifeSherpa

Nina Joy Lawrence and Serge Prengel are offering this experiential workshop as a fundraiser for The Focusing Institute. This live online workshop is pay-what-you-can. The suggested payment for US residents is $30. If you need to give less, that's fine, but we do require each participant to give something. Please give extra if you can! Thank you for supporting the Institute.

After you register here, watch for an email with instructions to join the class.
