Connections and Crossings: Advanced and Certification Focusing Weeklong 2016

Connections and Crossings
Advanced and Certification Focusing Weeklong 2016

"...by crossing we create in each other what neither of us was before." (Eugene Gendlin)

October 1-7, 2016
at Garrison Institute in Garrison, New York.

"My world is bigger. My heart is soaring."
"I got so much diverse and useful information that I can immediately apply in my profession working with groups and individuals. I also feel moved forward in personal issues."
"Siento mariposas en mi estomago y en mi espalda alas."
"I feel butterflies in my stomach and wings on my back."

One of the highlights of the Weeklong is getting to celebrate, honor and welcome newly Certified Focusing Trainers into the Focusing community. It is a celebration of the great diversity in the Focusing world, and an opportunity to gain advanced skills. It is open to newly Certified Trainers and Focusing-Oriented Therapists (FOTs), to already Certified Trainers, Certifying Coordinators as well as Advanced Focusers who have a substantial length and breadth of experience.

At the Weeklong, you will gain:

  • A deeper understanding of your special place in the ongoing evolution of Focusing and the worldwide Focusing community
  • Deep and life-long connections to Focusers from around the world who share your passion and interests and can offer you continuing support and contact as you take your next steps
  • Practical skills to help you to deepen your Focusing practice, professionally and personally, and
  • A sense of clarity and confidence about how you, in your own way and context, can offer your own gift of Focusing to the world

This is my fourth weeklong experience and my first as a Facilitator. What keeps me coming back?
The Weeklong is a bit of a lot of wonderful experiences…
It’s like going to a stimulating conference with time to relax and focus a lot….
It’s like going on an inner journey and being at a party with great friends…..
It’s like being challenged and being soothed…
It’s like creating your own pace and structure and following a schedule of daily activities…
It is all of these things and more and more and more…..

We hope you will be with us this October at beautiful Garrison to celebrate your Focusing training journey and to let us welcome you into our international community.

FOOD AT THE GARRISON INSTITUTE

Click here to read about food at the Garrison Institute

The Garrison Institute serves primarily vegetarian meals through their in-house caterer. As much as possible, they select local and organic foods that provide a well rounded and nutritious meal.  Many who enjoy nutritious, fresh vegetarian food rave about the meals at Garrison.

The Focusing Institute pays extra so that two meals during the week will have a substantial portion of meat, to make at least a partial accommodation to those who need meat in their diet.  We have been happy to add this expense so that meat-eaters have two meals with reasonably substantial portions, but those who need meat at each meal will need to find other ways to supplement.  The Garrison Institute does make an effort to make their vegetarian meals protein-rich.

Breakfast is the same each morning and includes hot oatmeal as the one heated dish. Lunch and dinner each have a main entree, two side dishes and salad greens. Each dish on the buffet table has a card which lists all ingredients in that dish. Many meals do contain dairy, wheat and/or gluten.

Menus are based on what is in season and on the market.  They are a retreat center which is set up to provide meals to groups, not to individuals. Because of this, they are not able to accommodate individual needs. But, because there are many people with food restrictions they do try to offer a simple substitute during lunch and dinner meals. This substitute always includes rice, a plain, unseasoned steamed vegetable and hard boiled eggs. These extra items will be in the small kitchen just behind the Dining Hall.

The Garrison Institute invites you to bring what you think you will need to supplement your diet. They have a refrigerator and shelf space to store what you bring. They also have a microwave and toaster to heat food. They do not have a stove or blender. Even on a limited diet most people find they can eat some of what is offered on the buffet table and, supplemented with what they bring, do fine. So at lunch and dinner you can go through the buffet line taking whatever suits you and then go into the nearby kitchen to supplement your meal with rice, a vegetable, eggs, or other foods that you have brought. Garrison invites you to identify yourself the first night at dinner so you can be shown where extra foods are available. At the end of meals (when everyone has been served) you can go back through the line and take more of whatever agrees with you to add to the next meal.
