Writing and Focusing are both creative processes –– which can move us toward greater awareness, self-appreciation, compassion, and gratitude. In this workshop, we will discover some evocative ways to nourish and animate our writing through Focusing.
In the first part of the workshop, David Smith will lead us through some ways to play with the felt sense, and transform the felt sense into a piece of writing that feels alive and evocative.
In the second part of the workshop, we will work from the perspective of seeing ourselves as a collection of stories. Julian Miller will help us transform one of our stories into a felt sense of lived experience, and produce a second short piece of written material. In sharing these stories we will no doubt move, delight, connect to, and inspire each other.
As an interactive, experiential workshop, this class will not be recorded. There will be pair work between participants.
David Smith is a Certified Focusing Professional with a special interest in the close relationship between Focusing and the arts. David is a published playwright, has written for New York children’s television, and has won awards for his work for both stage and video.
Julian Miller has been a writer for 40 years and Focuser for 20 years. He celebrates the synergy of these two practices. His current passion is poetry and memoir writing. He is the author of three books, Breaking Through, Symptoms, and a book of poetry, I Should Praise.
