The TIFI Membership Committee is pleased to offer Focusing Roundtables designed especially for members of the Institute. We hope that this program and those to come will afford members a valuable opportunity to engage in peer-to-peer conversation with other members who share Focusing-related interests.
This Roundtable will be of particular interest to members who interact on a regular basis with children as parents, family members, educators, and health care professionals.
The quality, intensity, and responsibility inherent in the interaction and connection with a child is rich, complex and often challenging. Do we feel like having enough support? Could the process of Focusing provide it? Can the process of pausing, keeping company, and listening bring that "taste of connectedness” that is needed in difficult times?
This Roundtable will open a space and time for evoking, sensing and exploring, "around all that". Among the questions we might explore together are:
- How do we sense and recognize when the connection is present with our child?
- What gets in the way of feeling connected? How do we lose and find our grounding?
- How do we nurture an environment of “being with" a child in a Focusing way?
- How can we use our felt sense about the situation we are in with a child?
These questions are offered as a starting point of a common exploration that might raise many others questions which we can explore with curiosity, respect, non-judgment, and tenderness.in both large group discussion and small breakout groups. We look forward to sharing our experiences, observations, and opinions, and inviting our felt sense regarding this exciting subject.
What to expect from Focusing Roundtables: Each Focusing Roundtable is designed to promote informal peer-to-peer conversation. Rather than acting as expert presenters, the Hosts will serve as conversation moderators to encourage sharing and exploration of the topics from the participants’ own perspectives. All participants’ sharings are welcome and valuable, no matter what level of experience or knowledge you have on the topic. To preserve the nature of informal conversation, the program will be offered live only and no recordings will be available. Registration is limited to 20 members on a first-come, first served basis. Participants are encouraged to create follow up opportunities for connection among themselves after the Roundtable.
